Staffordshire Russet Comforter Spaniel This little fellow exudes a tremendous amount of charm. Primitively painted and modeled it has a ton of character. Hard to find Size 6. Mid to late 19th Century Measures approx. 5.5"H X 5" W. Documentation: Harding Victorian Staffordshire, Book 2, p. 174 Condition: Crazing, firing cracks, paint flakes, glaze flakes The Spaniel Dogs, were a staple of the Victorian household and assimilate just as well in a present day. The origin or inspiration is thought to be the pet King Charles Spaniel "Dash", kept by Queen Victoria, as a child, who became her contest component when she became Queen. The first comforters appeared at the beginning of the 1840's and continued in production into the 1900's.
