Description

pair Staffordshire Russet Spaniel Dogs with Flower Baskets These little fellow exude a tremendous amount of charm. Small but scarce with each carrying a flower basket in their mouths. Mid to late 19th Century. Measures approx. 3.5"H X 2" W. Provenance: Prominent Private Collection Documentation: Harding Victorian Staffordshire, Second Adendum, p. 309, fig 2500 Condition: Wear to high points, paint loss, repaired chips to bases, otherwise minor imperfections to be expected. The Spaniel Dogs, were a staple of the Victorian household and assimilate just as well in a present day. The origin or inspiration is thought to be the pet King Charles Spaniel "Dash", kept by Queen Victoria, as a child, who became her contest component when she became Queen. The first comforters appeared at the beginning of the 1840's and continued in production into the 1900's.
