Staffordshire Russet Spaniel Dog This cute little piece exudes a tremendous amount of charm. Mid to late 19th Century. Measures approx. 4"H X 2.5" W. Provenance: Prominent private collection Documentation: Harding Victorian Staffordshire, Book 2, p. 181, fig 2462 Condition: Rubs to nose, small nics throughout, small chip to underside of base, otherwise minor imperfections to be expected. The Spaniel Dogs, were a staple of the Victorian household and assimilate just as well in a present day. The origin or inspiration is thought to be the pet King Charles Spaniel "Dash", kept by Queen Victoria, as a child, who became her contest component when she became Queen. The first comforters appeared at the beginning of the 1840's and continued in production into the 1900's.
