Description

Antique Staffordshire Spaniel This handsome fellow dates to mid 19th Century. Unique long body version. Separate legs adds interest and value. Approx. 8" H X 7" W Provenance: Prominent private New York Collection Condition: Restoration to tail, reglued back foot, crazing, otherwise minor imperfections to be expected. The Spaniel Dogs, were a staple of the Victorian household and assimilate just as well in a present day. The origin or inspiration is thought to be the pet King Charles Spaniel "Dash", kept by Queen Victoria, as a child, who became her contest component when she became Queen. The first comforters appeared at the beginning of the 1840's and continued in production into the 1900's.
