Description
Stunning Rare Large Original Pair Antique 19th Century Large English Porcelain Staffordshire Mantle Dogs • 12.75” This is a stunning pair of sumptuous antique 19C white spaniel mantle hearth dogs featuring classic formal expressions, yet each one with its own warm personality. In grand large size and excellent form that is exceptionally and beautifully glazed, this pair of stately right and left facing figures is certain to bring a touch of the English countryside to any setting in which it is placed. Perfect when featured on its own as part of a collection or arrangement. Marvelous surviving period examples to own and treasure. One of the highlights on this pair is the blue cast to glaze that pools in crevices, especially on the left piece. Display ready. Condition has expected age related hairlines that are stable and feather away on verso only. At some point someone tried to cover the hairlines with with white paint located on the back and bottom of left piece which was not necessary as these minimal anomalies are likely original to pieces and expected with models like these due to age and rarely seen extra large scale. The right piece has two small under glaze crazing hairlines to back that are stable and expected with large models that have travelled here from England and are well over 100 years old. No chips or breaks. Beautiful faces. This is a stunning pair that displays gloriously. From my personal collection. Incredible surviving pair to enjoy and treasure. * Listing is for pair of dogs only. Additional pieces are for display purposes. Height 12.75”
