Pair Antique Staffordshire Comforter Spaniels These Sophisticated Antique Victorian Staffordshire Spaniels are exquisitely molded with beautifully painted in a russet and white color way. By far the nicest Spaniels I've ever come across. Wonderful facial detail. Date to approx. 1860. Approx. 10"H X 7 1/2"W. The Spaniel Dogs, were a staple of the Victorian household and assimilate just as well in a present day. The origin or inspiration is thought to be the pet King Charles Spaniel "Dash", kept by Queen Victoria, as a child, who became her constant companion when she became Queen. The first comforters appeared at the beginning of the 1840's and continued in production into the 1900's.
