Staffordshire White Comforter Spaniel This spaniel most likely dates to the late 19th century, early 20th. Elegant lines and versatility to fit into any decor . Measures approx. 10"H X 10" W. Documentation: Harding Victorian Staffordshire, 1875-1962, p. 126, fig 4461 Condition: Excellent with age appropriate paint wear and crazing. A few minor imperfections which authenticate age. The Spaniel Dogs, were a staple of the Victorian household and assimilate just as well in a present day. The origin or inspiration is thought to be the pet King Charles Spaniel "Dash", kept by Queen Victoria, as a child, who became her contest component when she became Queen. The first comforters appeared at the beginning of the 1840's and continued in production into the 1900's.
